John Drake

Professor

Drake

Department: Odum School of Ecology

Research Interests: Population dynamics; epidemiology; computational ecology

John is a biological modeler who specializes in the data science of ecology and epidemiology. He has worked on West Nile virus, Ebola, White Nose syndrome, and Avian flu, among others. Recent work has focused on using new methods from machine learning to mine biological data sets for new patterns. When not working on new models for understanding disease dynamics, John may be found studying the biodiversity of freshwater ponds, working on the mathematical theory of extinction, or reading history and philosophy of twentieth century biology. John is director of the Center for the Ecology of Infectious Diseases.
